A sunroom is a wonderful addition to any home; it allows you to enjoy nature and your beautiful view year-round without being subjected to the elements. Ventilation is key to keeping that space temperate and with good air quality, even in extreme weather conditions. Consider a few of your best options below to choose the one that’s right for your budget and needs.

Ventilation Options for a Sunroom

1. Ductless Mini Split

Ductless mini split systems are affordable and small enough to be installed just about anywhere in the room. They can both heat and cool the space, so you can use it year-round. It works similarly to a central HVAC system but without the ducts and on a much smaller scale. The outdoor evaporator unit conditions the air, while the indoor unit intakes and blows the air into the room. They are efficient and run very quietly.

2. Central Air

If you have an existing central HVAC in your home, adding some ductwork out to your sunroom may be pretty easy. Keep in mind, however, that your sunroom will be more subject to the elements than the rest of the house, so you may want to put it on its own zone separate from the others. You’ll need to install a separate thermostat in the room so it can take accurate temperature readings.

3. Ceiling Fans

sunroomFans are recommended whether you have a climate control system or not. They are best for rooms with ceilings eight feet or higher since you do not want fans hanging just over people’s heads. They use very little energy and do wonders for your comfort. When used in conjunction with a climate control system, you can easily set your thermostat about five degrees lower or higher for better efficiency.
