With spring on our doorstep, now is the time to start growing flowers and plants in your garden. Some species can be planted in early spring, so they will bloom before the peak of the season. Below is a list of flowers to add to your garden now.

3 Types of Early Spring Flowers

1. Primrose

Primrose is recognized for its white, yellow, and purple foliage. This perennial species will begin to bloom in early spring and continue until early summer. They are best planted in gardens with partial or full shade in climates with a powerful sun. Adding mulch will help these plants retain their moisture.

2. Bleeding Heart

plantsBleeding hearts are beautiful plants with heart-shaped pink or white flowers on arching stems. They begin to appear in the early spring and will maintain their foliage with regular watering. Once summer arrives, these flowers will fall back into the ground due to the heat; however, it’s important not to remove the foliage before they turn brown as this will ensure they have enough nutrients for the following year’s bloom.

3. Bloodroot

Characterized by its small white flowers, this perennial species blooms in the early spring. They typically feature 8 to 12 petals and leafless stems and are a nice addition to a garden with partial shade. To maintain the foliage throughout spring and summer, water the plants twice a week.
