Nothing makes a vehicle look quite as pristine as new car paint. While it might seem impossible for its new appearance to last, the look of the paint is entirely dependent on the care you provide. Use the below do’s and don’ts to keep your car protected and beautiful for years to come.

Do:

Wash the car regularly.

Bird droppings, tree sap, bugs, and dirt are some of the biggest threats to your car paint. If left to sit, they can create scratches or lead to fading. Washing your vehicle at least once a week will combat these issues. Use an automotive-approved cleaner, cold water, and a soft cloth to avoid damage. When finished, use a microfiber cloth to dry the vehicle and prevent spotting or dirt from latching on to any remaining moisture.

Wax every quarter.

One of the best ways to protect your car paint from fading or staining is to wax the car every three months. Waxing removes dirt above and below the surface and also provides a protective layer to combat the elements. Use a microfiber cloth to apply the wax in small, overlapping circles. Then buff the wax to remove any extra residue, so you are left with a shiny finish.

Don't:

Leave it parked in the sun for too long.

car paintWhenever possible, always find a covered area to park your car under. Direct sunlight exposes your vehicle to UV radiation, which will absorb any dirt and moisture and cause fading. If you don’t have a garage at home, invest in a quality car cover that blocks sunlight but doesn’t trap moisture, which can lead to rusting.

Use automatic car washes.

It might seem like a quick way to remove the dirt from your car paint. However, the brushes can be too rough and harm the clear coating. They also tend to use aggressive cleaning chemicals. Some are also known to use grey water, which can contain salt. This can promote rust development.
