Best Things to Do After a Chiropractic Adjustment, Campbellsville, Kentucky

If you have recently seen a chiropractor for an adjustment or are planning to, there are a few things that are important to know for afterward. These tips can help keep your spine in proper alignment for longer as well as help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. So, it’s essential to know how to treat your body following an appointment.

Tips for After your Chiropractic Adjustment

1. Keep Moving

Motion is important to keep your body in alignment and for your overall health. In contrast, sitting for long periods can make your body stiff and uncomfortable. It also increases the risk of your body reverting to its former and unhealthy position. Stand as much as possible while at work, take a walk on your lunch, practice some yoga, or go swimming. These active yet low-impact activities will help to shorten your recovery time and will keep your posture more upright and positive.

2. Drink Lots of Water

As your body moves during an adjustment with your chiropractor and is stimulated, it begins to release toxins. The same thing happens when you get a message or participate in other physical activities. Drink water immediately afterward; for the next few days, this helps your body to flush toxins out, keeping you healthy and flexible.

3. Rest

chiropractorResting allows your body to heal, repair, and reset. As your body has just been realigned and is trying to teach itself new positions and movements, sleep can assist in the learning process. Just make sure to use a mattress and pillows that promote healthy alignment. Your chiropractor will be able to advise you on good sleeping positions.

4. Sit Up Straight

Just as maintaining a good position while you sleep is important so is having good posture while sitting. Sit upright in a neutral position, and take all objects out of your back pockets, such as a phone or wallet; next, face straight ahead with your feet flat on the floor, and adjust your computer and chair to maintain good posture. You can also use a standing desk.

5. Be Mindful of Your Movements

While you do want to keep moving, you will want to move carefully and be sure to not overdo it. Avoid heavy lifting, erratic or swift movements, and any physically demanding activities. Your body will need to relearn the correct movements, so pay attention to how you are moving and if there are ways that improve your posture and alignment.
