Maintaining your eyebrows can take painstaking effort to avoid over-plucking and significant time for routine upkeep. Microblading is the spa treatment alternative that will simplify your beauty routine and give you fuller, darker, and perfectly shaped lashes for up to two years. If you’re considering this skin care and beauty treatment, below are the answers to four questions people often have about it.

Top FAQ on Microblading

What is it?

Microblading is a spa treatment that augments eyebrows through shallow tattooing. It combats thinning, uneven, or poorly shaped eyebrows for a realistic, full appearance. The look of individual hairs is created by needling pigment into place. The color and shape are customized to your face and preferences. Since it’s a tattooing process, you must be at least 18 years of age, and it’s not generally recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How do I prepare?

Avoid tweezing, threading, and other eyebrow modifications at least two weeks before the spa treatment, as they increase sensitivity. Avoid smoking, caffeine, alcohol, and blood-thinning medications for 48 hours before your appointment, too, because these can interfere with ideal pigment placement. If you’re prescribed medications or have existing health conditions, discuss this with your skin care specialist beforehand. You should also avoid tanning, prolonged sun exposure, and dermal fillers for two months before and after microblading.

What should I expect from my appointment?

spaYou’ll first have a consultation and shaping, where your desired results are discussed. Microblading requires at least two appointments after the consultation, each six to eight weeks apart to allow for healing. At the appointment, you’ll be treated with a numbing solution to minimize discomfort. Since it’s a tattooing process, there may be some tenderness, but the numbing agent will be reapplied throughout. After treatment, your eyebrows will be dark and bold, which will fade slightly over time. Reddening and minor swelling are normal in the first few days, and the skin will itch and flake away in the first weeks of healing to reveal the final pigment shade.

How long do results last?

Everyone’s skin is different. Your final results and how long they last will vary depending on your health, skin type, and other factors, such as if you smoke, drink, or tan, as these habits contribute to rapid fading. On average, results last for up to two years, but annual spa touch-ups are recommended to maintain a realistic appearance.
