CrossFit® will help you get into shape after pregnancy, but some precautions need to be taken to ensure your body is ready to resume a strenuous workout. It's no secret that having a baby takes a significant toll on the body, so jumping back into a high-intensity workout may be too much at first. Instead, follow these tips to return to CrossFit after pregnancy in a healthy way.

How to Return to CrossFit After Having a Baby

1. Have Your Pelvic Floor Assessed

Before your first CrossFit session, have your pelvic floor examined by a gynecologist. The pelvic floor is a crucial component of the body's core, which gets an intense workout during CrossFit, and it must be in good shape to provide proper stability during any powerful exercise. Pregnancy and labor can damage, weaken, or tighten the pelvic floor. Ask your doctor to assess your pelvic floor to see if its condition is strong enough for exercise.

2. Go Slow

CrossfitIt can be tempting to dive headfirst back into CrossFit right away. But gradual exercise and rebuilding baseline strength are essential before starting. At first, keep it simple. Go for regular walks, runs, or swims, and do some light to moderate weight training. Build the intensity of these workouts slowly over the first few months post-pregnancy.

3. Find a Trainer

Working with a certified trainer after you've had a baby is often the best way to get workouts customized to your exact needs and fitness level. A trainer will provide a comprehensive evaluation that takes into account the condition of your body and the stresses it has been through. They will focus your sessions on establishing the strength necessary to make a full return to CrossFit.
