condominium near a beach offers beautiful views and easy access to the ocean on a hot day; however, if you’re not careful, you can track sand back to your apartment. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can use to ensure that your space remains sand-free. Below is a guide to keeping your home clear of grains.

Do:

Place doormats near the entrance.

One of the first best practices to avoid getting sand in your condominium is to buy a couple of doormats and place one in the hallway and one near the entryway inside the room. Not only will the mats remind you to wipe your feet, but they’ll collect sand as soon as you step on them.

Rinse your feet.

Many beaches have water stations near the bathroom or at the sand’s edge that you can use to rinse your feet. Since your shoes will likely be caked in sand after a long day at the beach, a quick wash will rinse the grains off before you head home.

Don’t:

Sit directly on the sand.

A sure way of tracking sand into your apartment is by laying down directly on it. To avoid being covered in it, it’s best to use a towel or a chair. This way, sand won’t hide in the crevices of your clothes and you’ll reduce the risk of sand burns—as sand retains heat from the sun.

Delay showering.

condominiumEven if you’re able to quickly rinse your feet at the beach, sand can still stick to your body. The best way to ensure it doesn’t track across your apartment is to take a shower as soon as you get home. Make sure to shake as much off before entering and remove your clothes in one area to contain lingering grains to one spot.
