Summer is a wonderful time to be a kid. Playing outside and relaxing with family is all part of the experience. Unfortunately, bad habits, such as sitting in front of the TV all day can develop, and your child may forget what they’ve learned in the previous school year. Therefore, consider at-home activities and day care to keep them physically and mentally engaged.

How to Prevent Summer Regression

1. Enroll Them in Sports Leagues

Research local leagues. The city or the school system may offer baseball, basketball, soccer, or swimming summer lessons, which your child can enroll in. This will allow them to learn valuable team-building skills while getting plenty of exercise with friends.

2. Encourage Reading

Reading is a perfect way to exercise the mind. It stimulates the imagination, encourages critical thinking skills, and is enjoyable. Create a summer reading program. Read with your child every night before bed and then discuss the contents with them. Schedule regular trips to the library and create incentives for when they read on their own. The skills they develop through this habit will pay off in the classroom when they return in the fall.

3. Get the Family Active

Exercise and family time is healthy for everyone. Create an activity calendar by dedicating a day each week to having an adventure. It can be a trip to the park, a hike or bike ride, or simply a walk around the neighborhood.

4. Enroll Them in Day Care

daycareMany day care programs have exciting summer activities for kids. They create a fun, stimulating environment that combines sports, off-site trips, and classroom learning. This will prevent summer regression, and it’s a fantastic way for your child to discover new passions.
