Trampolines can provide your family members and friends with hours of outdoor fun, but unfortunately, they can also be inherently dangerous. However, by abiding by a few simple rules, you can keep jumpers safe. Here are a few important guidelines for jumper safety.

3 Ways to Keep People Safe on Trampolines

1. Only One Person Should Jump at a Time

Although it might seem like a fun idea to let all of your kids jump on the trampoline at the same time, kinetic energy can transfer from one jumper’s bouncing area to another, making one person lose control of their bounce. Additionally, jumpers could accidentally collide with one another, causing injuries. Only allow one jumper at a time to bounce on your trampoline, and discourage kids from showing off by performing tricks or other stunts on the bouncing surface.

2. Trampolines Should Be Kept Clean & Dry

trampolineBefore allowing jumping, check the bouncing mat to make sure it is clean, dry, and free of debris. Never put water hoses, dish soap, or leaves on the trampoline, as these additions could make the surface slippery and more likely to cause trip and fall hazards.

3. Create a Safe Fall Zone Around the Trampoline

Because it is possible for a person to bounce off of the trampoline, create a “safe fall” zone about eight feet around the perimeter. Avoid placing yard equipment, playground structures, or toys in these areas, since they can create obstacles with a fallen jumper. If possible, make the surrounding area soft by adding things like grass, bark chips, or even play mats. Even if you have a net to prevent falls, safe areas around the trampoline can prevent issues while entering and exiting the jumping zone.
