Plants are an excellent way to breathe life into your home and taking care of them can develop into a lifelong hobby. Many people shy away for fear that they can’t handle the care regimen; however, there are plenty of plants that are easy to care for. Selecting something that requires little work in the beginning, will help you get comfortable. Below, you’ll find a few to get started with.

Houseplants Anyone Can Grow

1. Snake Plants

Snake plants are durable and nearly impossible to destroy. They can go without water or sunlight for extended periods; often, they only need several waterings throughout the winter. The long, vertical leaves make it easy to tuck into smaller places, and you’ll find both larger Mother-in-Law’s Tongue and smaller dwarf varieties to choose from.

2. Spider Plants

plantsSpider plants are a popular choice because they naturally purify air and are easy to care for. They’re best displayed in hanging baskets, as their long, flowing leaves dangle and expand quickly. Make sure they get ample sun, and water regularly to keep them healthy.

3. Dumb Cane  (Dieffenbachia)

Another lush, beautiful houseplant is a dumb cane. Its thick leaves are rich with various shades of green, and it grows quickly and easily with minimal care. Find a spot where it will get medium sunlight and stay warm. Avoid spaces where any cool drafts will flow in, and keep it away from pets, as its milky sap can cause skin irritation and be poisonous when ingested.

4. Jade Plant

Jade plants have long been a symbol of luck and require little-to-no effort to care for. They grow well in heavy sunlight and store water in their plump leaves. Allow the soil to completely dry out before watering, and set it alongside plants with longer, flowing leaves to add contrast.
