Spring is almost here and now is the ideal time to undertake a thorough office cleaning.  Try making a party of it by getting everyone involved and then have a bit pizza luncheon to celebrate.  The longer, brighter days can be motivating, inspiring people to declutter and get organized. From computer screens to office furniture, no aspect of the workplace should go unnoticed. Below, a few methods and benefits of springtime office cleaning are discussed in more detail.

Create a More Streamlined Work Environment

Decluttering and organizing make for a more efficient and productive office. Paper clutter can be a major problem in many workplaces, so that may be a good starting point. Go through all your papers on your desks, recycle what isn't needed, and prioritize what's left by how often it's used.

Keep Employees Healthy

Colds and flu increase during the winter months, so take the time to clean the communal surfaces and areas of your office. This includes doorknobs and handles, all the office furniture and equipment like copiers, fax machines and the vending machines. Look at your phones both on your desk and in your pocket...Ewww, they’re probably gross!  Turn them off or unplug them to give them a good cleaning and disinfecting, then turn them back on.  Scientist tell us that these things are the dirtiest items we come in contact with daily and we put them to our face.  Clean the ear piece area, microphone (mouth) area, buttons or screen.  Use a good-quality disinfectant spray but do not spray directly onto your computer device screens as that can cause permanent spotting.  Also, give breakrooms, conference rooms and bathrooms a comprehensive spring cleaning as well: wipe down surfaces, scrub sinks and toilets, and mop floors.  Clean the windows to let the light in and remove the accumulated winter haze.  Watch for signs of mold or mildew starting from a winter leak.

Eliminate Distractions

A messy workplace can be distracting. Use alcohol wipes to remove dirt buildup from computer screens and keyboards. Polish picture frames and glass with a soft, damp cloth.  Use a quality window cleaner solution and try micro-fiber towels.  They are more eco-friendly than paper towels and work great at reducing streaks.  Get those electronic device cables under control with wire manager devices or some zip ties.  Eliminating these small distractions will make both workers and visitors more comfortable.
