Earth Day is coming up on April 22. This annual event provides teachers and parents with the perfect opportunity to teach kids about recycling, conserving resources, and taking steps to help the environment. Rather than just discussing an action plan, a school trip will allow for a hands-on learning experience that can impact students profoundly. Here are a few ideas for inspiration.

Earth Day School Trip Ideas

1. Windfarm

The sight of large spinning turbines will fill kids with excitement, and they can speak to windfarm employees about the process that turns wind into electricity. Students will also learn about alternative fuel sources, perhaps, inspiring them to become scientists, researchers, and engineers down the road.

2. State Park

To get out in nature and talk about how ecological systems work, take your students to a state park. A guide can take your class on an easy walking trail, pointing out streams, tree species, and other natural features. Have each student collect one piece of litter during the hike; this will help them form a habit of caring for the environment.

3. Science Museum

4. Recycling Center

To teach kids about the importance of preserving resources, take them to a recycling center. The employees will explain how the process works and discuss ways your students can assist with recycling, from sorting their household’s trash to learning how to properly recycle electronics.
