As much as we wish it were otherwise, sometimes car accidents are inevitable. In fortunate cases, both parties walk away needing only collision repair. In worse ones, they may require medical attention. However, by showing extra caution, you can decrease your risks. Research has found that certain days tend to have a higher frequency of accidents than others, so be careful on the days below.

3 of the Most Dangerous Driving Days

1. Daylight Saving Time

“Springing forward” by one hour causes many people to feel drowsy the next day due to lost sleep. Unfortunately, this lack of alertness often carries over onto the road. Accidents become more frequent during the initial few days following the switch. Therefore, consider going to bed a little early so you can keep your eyes open and focused on your fellow drivers.

2. Christmas Season

However, the days leading up to Christmas through New Year can be especially problematic, due to people indulging in the holiday spirits a little too much. Therefore, if there is ever a time when you feel like you’ve had too much to drink, call someone else to give you a ride. And if you’re sober, keep on the lookout for cars that may be weaving or acting erratically.

3. February 24

Though other parts of the country tend to see the highest rates of vehicle fatalities in the summer, one study found that the most dangerous driving day for Nebraska is February 24. With January 30 coming in at a close second, it is likely that an increased risk of encountering icy roadways is a contributing factor to the number of cars in need of collision repair.
