Planning a party for children is a lot of fun, but some parents feel stumped when it comes to picking out what types of food to serve. When hiring a full-service catering company, you want to make sure the offerings are kid-friendly. The following catering tips will help you throw a memorable kids’ party.

How to Handle Kids’ Party Catering

1. Request Food Allergies With RSVPs

To make sure everyone enjoys themselves worry-free, ask parents to send along information regarding their child’s food allergies with their RSVP. You can either create a menu without common food allergens or label individual dishes so individuals can navigate accordingly. If you’re using a full-service catering company, pass on the information to them with at least a week’s notice so they can adjust their menu accordingly.

2. Stick With Finger Foods

Make the servings small enough for kids to handle them with their little hands. Serving finger foods means you don’t have to break out the utensils, cutting your cleaning time in half. Consider crowd-pleasers like fruit skewers, tempura bites, or veggie sushi rolls.

3. Go Disposable

full-service cateringDisposable products are a lifesaver when you’re planning a kids’ party.  Instead of worrying about washing dishes, children can simply throw away their plates when they’re done eating. If you want to be green, look for disposable plates and utensils made from compostable plant fibers. Ask your catering company if they have eco-friendly options available.

4. Don’t Have Too Much

Children tend to eat a lot less than expected. To save on costs and reduce the mess by the end of the party, avoid ordering an excessive amount. If you expect 10 to 15 kids to show up, have your caterer make enough for 10.

5. Be Sweet

Most kids don’t care about the snacks or savory offerings at the party— they’re there for the dessert! Always have a sweet offering to cap off your party, whether it’s cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream sundaes. Pass out servings yourself to minimize mess, and let the little ones know they can come back for seconds once everyone has their share.
