From razor burn to expensive head replacements, shaving definitely has its drawbacks. Waxing is a smart alternative that will leave your skin hair-free for longer, and it won’t result in any of those stubborn red bumps.  Use the following list of do’s and don’ts to get the best results.

Grow your hair out beforehand

For the wax to properly grip your hair and extract them, you’ll need to grow out the area you plan to wax for at least two weeks. The longer you grow it out the first time, the better. After the first wax, you’ll want to get it done every 4-6 weeks.

Take a pain reliever

waxing Waxing isn’t incredibly painful. Still, you can limit discomfort by taking a pain reliever about an hour before your appointment, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Limit your intake of ibuprofen to two capsules or your risk of bruising will be increased.

Take a shower

Please take a shower within a few hours prior to your appointment. The cleaner you are, the more thorough your technician will be.

Hydrate

Drink lots of water before your appointment and your hair will extract  easier. When you are dehydrated, your pores will be closed and that will make the service much more painful.

Avoid certain products and medications

Using harsh exfoliants on the area before your appointment could make your skin more sensitive. Make sure your exfoliant is gentle and water based.

Avoid using blood-thinning medications, as these could cause bleeding and bruising. This includes alcohol, which can also thin the blood.
