Let’s say you are in the groove of healthy eating, being active, and feeling great, and then you get invited out to eat. Do you feel anxious? You don’t want to lose your momentum, right? You have worked too hard to let one or two social events keep you from a great week.

So, how can you stay on track while still maintaining your social life?  Read below for some tips to do so.

Five Weight Loss Strategies for Your Next Social Event:

  1. Seek out the information you need to plan ahead. Know the place you are going out to for dinner, for example. From there you can look up the menu and get a game plan in place.  You can then decide, before you even see the menu, what works for your plan. This can free up time and anxiety once you arrive so that you can enjoy your company.
  2. Be flexible, yet determined.  Getting creative with your schedule is a must for keeping your routine.  If you can’t make it to the gym after work as planned then make up for it with a morning session instead.  Ask yourself how you can keep yourself in check and lose weight while veering off your normal schedule to attend special gatherings. Make a list of what must be done for you to attend.
  3. Be selfish and do what works for you.  Offer to bring something to dinner at a friend’s home.  Also, lay down the ground rules to those close you by saying you are eating healthy and will be passing on dessert of drinks.  A quick, simple statement can help you from being tempted when the offer comes your way.  Leave early if drinks will become too tempting later in the evening.
  4. Always prepare at home beforehand. Eat a well balanced snack or mini-meal to ward off hunger before the meal is actually served. Also, make sure you are well hydrated and review your plan before leaving the house.

Remember, don’t miss out on important events in your life in fear of food.  You will learn ways to get through any situation, but being in the moment and mindful of your social setting is important.  On the other hand, don’t get pressured to do what you don’t want to partake in either. The feeling you have after a decision or behavior is made is the key.

Stay positive and never give up!
