When you consider maintaining your pool, you might run into some commonly held beliefs that just aren't true. M & M Pool Services wants to ensure you have the correct information on modern pool maintenance so that your pool stays clean and safe. Here are some commonly held myths:

  • Pools are expensive and difficult to maintain: Decades ago this might have held true, but there are a variety of energy-efficient pumps to choose from that will save a significant amount of money. In addition, better chemical mixes and filtration systems make it easy to maintain your pool and water quality.
  • Draining is the best pool cleaning tool: This is a very wasteful practice by today's standards. Draining your pool is expensive and time consuming.
  •  A strong odor equals a clean pool: Chlorine in your pool should not have an intense odor. If it does, this indicates it has mixed with high levels of contaminants. Your well-sanitized pool will have a slight odor; if a strong odor is present, this is a clue that something is wrong and the chemical levels need to be tested.
  • You can add chemicals to your pool anytime: This is not true. Chlorine destabilizes when it's exposed to sunlight, so the best time of day to add chemicals is after sunset. If you add chemicals at night, this gives them a chance to mix to appropriate levels in the water before any swimmers enter the pool.
