1. Blot With a Wet Paper Towel

If water- or latex-based paint colors get on your carpet or rug, you might be able to easily remove the stain if it’s still wet. Take a damp paper towel, wet it with tap water, and dab it directly on the stain until the residue is gone. Never scrub to expedite the process. Doing so will spread the tinge and make the discolored area larger. 

2. Use Hot Water, Detergent & a Pin

If the water- or latex-based stain has already set, you’ll need more than a damp paper towel to remove it. To get rid of dry colorant, pour hot water and detergent on the blemish and let it soak in. This will allow the paint to soften. After a few minutes, you should be able to scrape the tint off carpet fibers with a small, dull knife or needle. 

3. Try Steam Cleaning the Stain
