Wearing braces is an incredibly effective way to achieve a beautiful, straight smile. That being said, your oral hygiene routine will need to be updated while wearing them to avoid issues after their removal. One such issue is white spots.  such as white spots on your teeth. To ensure you steer clear of these, enlist the following tips.

4 Tips to Avoid White Spots on Your Teeth From Braces

1. Brush Frequently

BracesIn addition to brushing and flossing your teeth every morning and before bed, do your best to brush for two minutes after mealtime. This will help remove food debris, bacteria, and acids from lingering on your teeth and causing them to decalcify. Plus, it will ensure your breath is fresh and that you won’t have to worry about food particles remaining stuck in your braces.

2. Watch Your Diet

Certain foods and beverages have a higher acid content and, as such, wear down your enamel much faster. While you have braces, reduce your intake of sugary drinks like fruit juice, soda, and sports drinks and limit the number of sweet treats you consume. If you do decide to indulge in a soda, sip it through a straw and brush your teeth immediately after enjoying dessert.

3. Use Fluoride Mouthwash

Fluoride mouthwash can strengthen your enamel and make your teeth more resistant to white spots. Use a fluoride mouthwash daily as part of your oral hygiene routine to benefit from this.

4. Visit Your Dentist for Teeth Cleaning

Most importantly, maintain a strong relationship with your dentist and schedule visits every four to six months for teeth cleaning and to discuss any oral health issues you’re experiencing while you wear braces. Your dentist can help you avoid white spots and provide recommendations to ensure you have a beautiful smile during and after your orthodontic timeline.
