  1. Be Aware. Were you able to see the other car coming and could you brace yourself?
  2. Getting Rear-ended. These types of accidents are considered worse since they surprise the victims.
  3. Gender. Women are known to be more injured during accidents because of lower muscle mass and smaller neck.
  4. Is your car crushed or broken? Crumpled vehicles slow the speed of the body which leads to less injuries. Unbroken bumpers mean the force of the accident was 5 times more due to a rebound.
  5. Which direction were you facing during impact? Facing straight is always better than rotated on impact.
  6. What position was your seat and what type of head restraint did the victim have? Seat and headrest adjustment is very important. A head rest must be within 4 mm of your head and the top of your head and headrest must be equal. Also consider whether your seat was broken or if it sprung your body forward.
  7. Is your spine healthy? If your spine is usually stiff and arthritic than there will be more injury in an accident compared to if you are healthy and flexible.
  8. Consider the size, weight, and speed of the vehicles.
