weldingLow carbon steel is one of the most easily weldable materials out there. It is a readily available material that engineers have spent a lot of time working with, so they have developed specialized ways of welding it for a perfect result. Because it is low in carbon content, it is an extremely ductile material and thus easy to manipulate without shattering or cracking.

Aluminum is another popular material. It is more challenging to work with but is a strong material so with a proper heat treatment the result will be durable. Stainless steel is desirable since it is highly resistant to corrosion – this is just why it’s used in so many restaurant kitchens. Some other metals are more difficult to work with but are a good choice for experienced welders who want a specific result, such as high carbon steels or titanium.

How to Ensure a Successful Weld

Every metal is one-of-a-kind with unique properties, so you’ll need to adjust your welding techniques accordingly. Select the right type of weld for the metal you’re using. Shielded metal arc welding is ideal for steel, iron or aluminum. Gas metal arc welding can be used for steel, cast iron, or magnesium. MIG welding can be used for stainless steel, low carbon steel or aluminum.
