If you're planning to learn to golf, preparing for your lesson will ensure a fun and educational first experience. The game requires specific equipment, plus you’ll want to bring along some extra items for your comfort.

What to Bring to the Golf Course

1. The Right Clothes

Many golf courses have dress codes that you should follow as closely as possible. A long or short-sleeved polo shirt is appropriate, as are either slacks or shorts with belt loops. You may not want to invest in golf shoes yet, so just choose something comfortable for your first lesson, like sneakers.

2. Golf Clubs

A full set of new golf clubs can be a major expense, especially if you aren't sure about the hobby yet. Thankfully, many courses offer club rentals. Check on this beforehand. Another good option is to buy your first golf clubs secondhand.

3. Sunscreen

GolfThere's rarely shade out on the golf course, so protect yourself as much as possible. Apply sunscreen throughout the day. You may also want to bring sunglasses and a hat or visor to shade your face.

4. Water

For the same reasons, bring plenty of water to drink. An insulated water bottle is the best way to keep your water cold. If you bring water in disposable plastic bottles, remember you'll have to cart the trash out.

5. Tees & Balls

When you golf, it's inevitable for tees to break and balls to get lost, especially when you're first learning to control your swing. Take extras with you so you don’t need to cut playtime short to get more.
