Even when you hire professional movers to do the heavy lifting, preparing for a relocation can be a time-consuming process for everyone in the family. Seeing parents and older siblings packing up rooms will pique the curiosity of younger kids. So they don’t feel left out, try to find fun ways to involve them in the process. If you’re not sure where they can help, below are a few ideas to get started.

3 Ways Youngsters Can Help Prepare for a Move

1. Pick Out Packing Supplies

moversAlthough visiting an office supply store is just another activity on your to-do list, it can create a world of fun for younger kids. During the outing, let little ones take charge of picking out markers, stickers, and other items to label boxes. You can let them write their names on the boxes later so movers know where to place the belongings in the new home.

2. Help Sort Toys

Downsizing will make the entire packing process easier. So kids have a say in what ends up in the new home, let them sort through all their toys. You can have them create two piles: one with items they want to keep, and the other with belongings you can donate to charity.

3. Seal Boxes

Depending on the age of your children, it might be best for older kids and adults to put items in boxes. They will know how to arrange possessions to prevent damage when movers load and unload boxes from the moving truck. So kids can still help out, let them apply tape to seal the boxes. Just remember to go over their work to make sure the flaps are secure.
