If you are looking for fun activities to enjoy with the entire family, consider planning a night out bowling. Lining up the ball to knock down pins helps young kids improve their hand-eye coordination and balance. Basic math skills are also reinforced as they tally and keep track of scores. Although you can use bumpers to prevent gutter balls, the following tips will help kids score higher with each turn and become better bowlers.

Bowling Tips for Kids Just Starting to Learn

1. Wear Comfortable Clothing

To push away, downswing, backswing, slide, and release, you need a complete range of motion. To execute these bowling techniques, your child must be able to move their arms and legs freely. Make sure they wear loose-fitting clothing to the bowling alley, as tight apparel will restrict their movements.

2. Find the Right Ball

bowlingYour youngster should have control of the ball until release, as it will make it easier to aim in the intended direction. They should hold multiple balls and practice swinging with each to determine which is the right fit. The holes should be large enough for their little fingers but not too big that they can’t get a good grip. When starting out, use a ball on the lighter side, as they are easier to hold.

3. Focus on the Arrows

As the goal is to knock down as many pins as possible, it’s natural to look at the pins when setting up a swing and releasing the ball. Kids should avoid this and look at the arrows on the lane instead. Aiming at these markers will increase the chance of making contact with the target.
