Spring is an exciting time of year as the weather warms up, and it should also be a busy time for homeowners. This is the ideal season to give your home some much-needed care. Winter was tough on your roofing, and wet spring weather means you should be proactive about dealing with any issues it might have to prevent leaks. Use the guide below so you don’t miss anything important.

Guide to Spring Care for Your Roofing

How to Clean Up

roofingEven though all your trees have long shed their leaves, winter and early spring may have brought some debris onto your roof and into your gutters. Check the roof for any debris such as twigs and animal nests and remove them. Debris will trap moisture under it that will not dry out, which could lead to mildew growth or water damage. Clear your gutters and downspouts of any debris as well, so you won’t deal with any backups during those spring rainstorms. Check that all your trees are well trimmed back at least five feet from the roof so they won’t drop limbs on your house or scrape against it in the wind.

Schedule a Roofing Inspection

Spring is the best time to get your inspection from a roof repair contractor. They’ll look for any signs of damage that rough winter weather may have caused and handle those repairs if they’re needed. They’ll also look for signs of wear that could result in more serious problems down the line, and address them. Because spring is a rain-heavy season, fixing any problems now can save your home from some extensive water damage.
