Funeral services give families and friends the opportunity to come together and celebrate the life of the deceased. Sharing photographs of your loved one is one meaningful way to honor them, as it gives guests a chance to think back on fond memories and happy times. If you’re planning a service for a loved one, here are a few ways you can incorporate photos.

Guide to Using Pictures in Funeral Services

1. Large Portrait

One large photo, or a tribute portrait, is a great option whether your service has an open casket or not. Print a headshot on picture paper or canvas, then frame it and place it on a stand at the front of the service venue. Some popular size options include 16 by 20 inches or 24 by 36 inches.

2. Digital Slideshow

funeral servicesA digital slideshow is an easy way to share multiple photos. Some free programs you can use to create this are Photo Slideshow Director®, iMovie®, or Windows Movie Maker®. Decide whether you want to have it playing on repeat off to the side or include the slideshow as a main part of your service. If it’s part of your service, you may want to set it to some of the deceased’s favorite music to further honor them.

3. Picture Boards

If you want to create a display that people can admire throughout the service, consider setting up a few picture boards. These are larger boards on which you can pin smaller photos (such as 4 by 6 inch prints). Feel free to get creative — you can use them to create a timeline of the deceased’s life or simply pick your favorites. The picture boards will be placed on a table, so you can include other items as well that accurately reflect their life. For example, you could display your loved one’s military medals or bake up a batch of their famous cookie recipe to share with guests.
