3 Health Benefits of Eating Poke Bowls, Waialua, Hawaii

Trying to eat healthier doesn’t mean sacrificing everything delicious. The popular Hawaiian food poke, for instance, is incredibly healthy and tasty. If you’re not convinced, here are some of the benefits you’ll receive by making it a staple in your diet.

How Is the Hawaiian Food Poke Healthy?

1. Good Source of Fiber

The base of poke bowls typically consists of either white or brown rice. One cup of brown rice contains 3.5 grams of fiber, which is more than double the amount in white rice. Brown rice also has a low glycemic index so it takes longer to break down into sugars and will keep you feeling full longer.

2. Loaded With Protein

A four-ounce serving of this fish contains 30 grams of protein. If a woman weighing 150 pounds eats a bowl containing this amount, she will receive over half of her daily protein allotment.

3. Heart-Friendly Omega-3 Fatty Acids

A four-ounce serving of yellowfin tuna also contains 350 mg of omega-3 fatty acids. The American Heart Association recommends eating at least two 3.5 servings of fatty fish each week, which has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of death from coronary disease. Omega-3s also lower triglyceride levels, increase good cholesterol, and decrease the likelihood of developing abnormal heart rhythm.
