You rely on your vacuum cleaner to keep the carpeting immaculate and dust-free. And while this piece of equipment is built to last several years, at some point the wear and tear of regular use will cause it to break down. Some issues can be fixed with repairs. However, it’s important to know when your vacuum cleaner is reaching the end of its days.

3 Signs You Need a New Vacuum

1. Burning Smell

If your vacuum cleaner produces a strong burning rubber or smoke odor, this is a warning sign that it’s nearing the end of its usable life span. The reason may be a broken belt or a burnt out motor. While the belt can be replaced, a broken motor is usually cause to upgrade to a new vacuum cleaner.

2. Strange Noises

vacuum cleanerStrange noises, such as whistling or roaring sounds, are never a good sign. First, unplug the vacuum and check the hoses and brush to see if any debris has gotten stuck. If so, this may be the culprit behind the sounds. If you can’t find anything blocking the hose, these sounds may be symptoms of a failing motor.

3. No Suction

If there are still lingering crumbs, dust, or debris on the floor after running your vacuum, this may also be the result of a clogged hose. However, if you can’t find any evidence of a blockage, there may be damaged components within your vacuum causing weak suction. If you have a cheaper or old model, the best choice may be to replace the entire device.
