Myofascial trigger points have been known to mimic many medical conditions. Frequently, when a medical diagnosis is made and treatment is given, the results are less than satisfactory. The pain may still be present and the cause may be myofascial trigger points.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is one of the diagnosis that has symptoms mimicked by trigger points. Mayo clinic defines TOS as a group of disorders that occur when nerves and blood vessels that lay between your collarbone and first rib are compressed. This can cause pain in your shoulders, neck and numbness in your fingers

The subclavius muscle located under the clavicle or collar bone can tighten and pull the collar bone down causing pressure on arteries and nerves that mimic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome symptoms. This pain can be aching, cause a cold hand on the affected side and cause pain to be felt along the clavicle, down the arm and radial side of the forearm and into the thumb and fingers.

Frequent causes of trigger points in the subclavius is the round shoulder posture that is common with computer work, the pressure of a tightened seat belt over the muscle from a motor vehicle accident and repetitive action involving the muscle like swimming or throwing a baseball over and over.
