3 Tips for Displaying a Cremation Urn in Your Home, Greenwich, Connecticut

If you and your family are looking for a flexible memorial option, cremation is a smart choice. In addition to giving family members and friends the chance to hold memorial services at a later date, cremated remains can also be spread according to each attendant’s wishes, or stored in an urn as a way to remember their loved one. Here are three tips for displaying a cremation urn in your home.

Advice for Storing Urns at Home

1. Create a Safe Place

To protect your loved one’s remains, try to locate a safe, rarely touched place in your home where you can display the urn. Appropriate places include shelves out of the reach of children and pets, unused rooms, or inside of glass cabinets. Make sure the location you choose is strong enough to support the weight of the urn and ashes, and stable enough that the container won’t topple over.

2. Add Personalized Touches

cremationInstead of simply putting the urn on its own, pair it with items that were special to your loved one. Examples might include religious figurines or personal items like an old watch or favorite book. Adding these little extras will make your space even more dedicated to that special person and give visitors ways to reflect on their life.

3. Pair It With a Photo

Consider placing a photo of your loved one near the urn. If having such a direct reminder of your loved one next to their urn is too painful for you or your family members, consider adding a picture of a place that was special to them instead, such as a park or beach.
