Makeup allows you to express yourself and feel your best. However, even the best foundation is not a replacement for skin care. When wearing makeup daily, you need to take special steps to keep your skin healthy.

How to Keep Your Skin Healthy If You Wear Makeup

1. Remove Your Makeup

When you sleep in makeup, foundation and concealer can clog your pores and irritate your skin. Remove all of your makeup with products like wipes or micellar water, and thoroughly cleanse your face before going to bed.

2. Avoid Rubbing

skin careYou might be in the habit of rubbing in foundation, concealer, and liquid blush with your hands. However, this motion can tug at the skin, potentially increasing your risk of wrinkles. Dab makeup onto your face instead. You can then gently even out the product with a makeup brush or beauty blender.

3. Know Your Sensitivities

If you notice dry, red, or itchy skin on your face, you might be allergic to one or more of your makeup products. While it might be tempting to layer on more product to cover the irritation, this will only harm your skin more. Scale your makeup routine back to the basics, adding additional products until you find what is irritating you. Note which ingredients you might be sensitive too, and start reading labels before you buy any product. You may want to consult a dermatologist on which makeup brands are beneficial for your skin and which to avoid based on your sensitivities.
