How Much Food Should I Order for My Football Watch Party? April 16, 2019

How Much Food Should I Order for My Football Watch Party? , Manhattan, New York

The most important detail to consider when planning a football watch party is the food. Ordering from a restaurant will alleviate the stress of having to cook, but you’ll still be faced with the challenge of estimating the amount of food you will need. The last thing you want is to run out of things for your guests to eat, but you also don’t want your refrigerator to be full of leftovers that may go to waste. While there is no set formula to calculate how much your order should include, the following guidelines will help.

How to Estimate the Right Amount of Food for Your Party

Appetizers

Typically, you should expect your guests to eat five to six appetizers each. However, it could be more if everyone is enjoying libations as well. Make sure you have plenty to circulate around the room, but not so much that people will be too full to enjoy the main course.

Main Dishes & Sides

restaurantIf your restaurant order contains a choice of dishes, you’ll need to have enough for people to sample each one. Keep in mind that the more options you have, the smaller the portion sizes usually are. It’s recommended that you serve six ounces per guest for meat entrees, four ounces for sides, and one ounce for leafy salads.

Dessert

When it comes to dessert, you can generally plan on one slice of cake or pastry per person, four ounces of creamy desserts, and five ounces of ice cream. If you are going to have various sweets, you can reduce serving sizes by approximately half.

Additional Tips

Even if you have people RSVP, it’s best to account for a few extra people when calculating your food order. Also, consider that people tend to eat more at night than during the daytime, and children will eat about half of what adults consume. Furthermore, if you think a particular dish will be popular, it’s a good idea to purchase more of it.
