3 Reasons Your HVAC System is Leaking, Macedonia, Georgia

Of the many problems that call for HVAC repair, a leak may seem relatively minor. Over time, however, even a small leak could cause mold and mildew to grow or contribute to electrical problems for your system. The following are some of the most common culprits behind this air conditioning issue and how to fix them.

3 Reasons You Need HVAC Repair for Leaks

1. Clogged Drain Lines

The drain line, or condensate line, is often at the root of HVAC leaks. The drain line is responsible for removing all condensation from the overflow pan, sending it outside the building or into a drainage pipe. Mold and other debris can clog the drain line, causing it to back up and overflow. This issue can be addressed by removing the blockage, cleaning the drain lines, and installing an overflow shutoff device. This will prevent future leaks.

2. Coil Trouble

HVAC repairYour air conditioner’s coils can also contribute to unexpected leaks. If you don’t replace your filters or run low on refrigerant, the indoor evaporator coil could form ice. When this ice melts, you’ll have a leak. Letting the exterior evaporator coil get dirty can also cause performance issues and leaks. Regular inspections and tune-ups will keep these crucial coils in top working condition.

3. Overflow Pan Damage

Standard air conditioners come with an overflow pan, which is designed to catch normal condensation that occurs during the unit’s operation. If the pan gets cracked or damaged, the water will leak out. In these situations, the best solution is to replace the damaged pan altogether — a relatively inexpensive HVAC repair.
