With the right gear, technique, and plenty of practice, anyone can bowl like a pro. Whether you’re at the bowling alley for fun or competition, bowling a strike is an exhilarating experience. So how can you keep up a good streak? Use the following guide to learn what it takes to consistently knock out all 10 pins at once.

How to Bowl a Strike Every Time

1. Get Your Equipment in Order

Before you even approach the bowling lane, make sure you have everything you need. Check that your rental shoes from the front desk fit properly. Most will settle for the house ball, but it can be beneficial to buy your own and have it custom-fitted. Don’t try to show off by choosing the heaviest ball available. These will send the pins flying away from each other, rather than into one another.

2. Plan Your Approach

bowlingSet yourself up for success by strategizing your steps. Standing at the foul line, face away from the pins and take four steps forward. This will be your starting point. Use the two parallel rows of dots to center yourself, then step slightly in the direction of your dominant side. If you find yourself overcompensating your curve, move toward the pins you’re missing.

3. Aim for the Arrows

Look straight down the lane. About 15 feet from the foul line, you’ll see a cluster of arrows in the shape of an inverted V. Focus on these rather than the pins. Right-handed bowlers should aim to roll their ball over the second-to-last arrow, while left-handed bowlers will shoot for the second arrow.

4. Watch Your Posture

As you begin your approach, walk in a straight line. Align your shoulders with the foul line when you take your final step and swing your arm straight forward. Don’t pay too much attention to your form, or you’ll end up stiff. If any extra movements or adjustments feel more comfortable and earn you a strike, add them to your routine.

5. Follow Through

When it comes to bowling, the follow-through is key. Remember to release the ball at the bottom of your downward swing, then keep your momentum until your arm reaches above your head. This increases the power you put into your roll, enhancing the ball’s rotation and improving accuracy.
