Cleaning an oven is never a fun or easy task. While this appliance will need attention from time to time with oven repair and cleaning, you can limit how often you must do this by being careful while you cook. By knowing the common issues behind those unfortunate oven messes, you can take some simple steps to avoid them altogether.

How to Keep Your Oven Clean

1. Cover Food

Depending on the type of food you cook, it can splash, spill, or splatter inside your oven. This is what leaves those spots of grease all around your oven, such as on the interior of the glass window. To prevent this issue, simply cover your food while it cooks with foil. You can also purchase roasting bags for meat and vegetables to accomplish the same purpose—without impacting how the food cooks; covered glass and ceramic bakeware also work well.

2. Install a Drip Tray

Place something disposable along the bottom of the interior to catch those drips. Two great options are lining the bottom with foil or putting down an easy-clean roasting tin. While foil works in a regular oven, do not place it in a microwave oven; it could cause the unit to short circuit, at which point even oven repair might not be able to salvage the appliance.

3. Wipe Down Daily

While wiping down your oven every time you use it takes a small investment of time, it’s much easier than scrubbing old grease out of the appliance. Put some water in oven-safe bakeware and cook it at high heat for 20 minutes. This loosens up the grime on the walls. Once your oven has cooled down, you can then simply wipe the interior with paper towels to get it clean.
