4 Tips for Dealing With a Neck Kink, Lincoln, Nebraska

Waking up with a neck kink is never pleasant. However, there are many things you can do to alleviate the pain quickly. Muscle kinks can occur throughout the body but are most common in the neck, shoulders, and back. While they are not severe, they can make everyday tasks challenging. Stress, overexertion, and low-quality mattresses and pillows are among the most common causes of this painful issue. Use these neck pain relief tips so you can go about your day, and remember that ongoing pain requires professional treatment by a licensed chiropractor.

4 Neck Pain Relief Best Practices For Relieving A Kink

1. Use Ice & Heat Therapy

Place a wrapped ice pack on your neck for 15 to 20 minutes to dull the pain and reduce inflammation. Follow ice therapy with a heating pad to relax the muscles and increase circulation. Do not use the pad for more than 15 minutes. Hot baths also loosen the muscles, especially if you add a natural relaxer such as lavender essential oil. Warm showers provide neck pain relief as well.

2. Apply Kinesiology Tape

Increase blood flow to your neck and provide support with kinesiology tape. The fabric tape lifts the skin to promote fluid drainage and reduce swelling. Wear the tape for up to five days to also help with postural issues.

3. Try Gentle Massage

Rub the affected area gently for neck pain relief, or have a friend or family member do it. Stop the massage immediately if you experience more discomfort. A massage works out the kinked muscle and may be used in conjunction with other treatments.

4. Do Not Overextend Your Neck Or Crack It

Avoid overextending your neck or trying to crack it yourself, as you could worsen the problem. See your chiropractor if the issue lasts longer than two days to prevent limited mobility problems. Experienced chiropractors make spinal adjustments that provide lasting back and neck pain relief.
