Whether your child is headed for camp or an extended school excursion, their first trip away from home is an exciting experience. However, you want to ensure they keep up dental care habits while they’re away having fun. Here are some tips to help you prepare them for their trip.

3 Ways to Prepare Your Child for Dental Care on the Road

1. Pack a Dental Care Kit

If your child doesn’t have everything they’ll need, they likely won’t brush and floss. Before they go, pack them a travel kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash approved by their pediatric dentist. If there’s space, pack extras in case they lose something along the way. Also, teach them to let their brush air-dry and clean their case to avoid bacteria growth.

2. Pack Healthy Snacks

Crunchy apples and carrots can naturally wash teeth, seeds are an easy on-the-go, nutritious treat, and sugar-free gum can reduce sugar cravings. If they’re going away for a while, create a list of approved snacks they can purchase.

3. Plan a Pre-Trip Checkup

You don’t want to receive a phone call saying your child has had a dental emergency on the road because an issue has gone untreated. Schedule an exam with a pediatric dentist, so they can check for issues and provide fixes if needed. This is also a good time to ask additional questions about snacks and dental care products for them to use.
