1. Make sure you have a good supply of kindling for wood burning stoves and fireplaces.
2. Lay the fire now, before you need it.  Bring in an extra supply of wood to warm up and ensure it's dry for easy lighting.
3. Empty the covered ash can so it's ready for your next use.  Make sure to put any hot ash out in the yard and not on a porch.
