For most people, their iPhone® never leaves their side. It goes with them everywhere, from school or work to the gym. Because of this constant flurry of activity, there’s a high chance of accidentally dropping it and cracking the glass. Thankfully, this is one of the most common types of iPhone repairs, so unless the damage is severe, you can easily get your phone back in working order. However, if you want to avoid the need for any type of iPhone repair, here are a few ways to prevent a cracked screen.

How to Avoid Accidentally Cracking Your iPhone

1. Screen Protector

Made from either plastic film or tempered glass, these act as the first line of defense in case the phone drops. They'll reduce the likelihood of the glass shattering upon impact. Tempered glass will be more durable, but the plastic film is less noticeable.

2. Hard Case

Having a silicon or rubber bumper shell between the phone and the case will also absorb a shock in the event of a fall.

3. Wallet Case

To further avoid iPhone repairs, store your phone in a wallet-type case, so the screen is fully covered. Look for a material that’s relatively thick; leather or faux leather is much more preferable than canvas or wool. Also, choose one with a zipper or button closure, so it doesn't accidentally expose the screen when being moved to your pocket or purse.

4. Phone Grip

Many newer iPhone devices are wide, and holding one with a single hand can be cumbersome. A grip attaches to the back of your phone and serves as an anchor point for your fingers. You can find them as straps or protruding charms to hold onto while you’re texting or calling.

5. Extra Caution

Being careful is the best way to protect your phone’s screen. For example, don’t leave the device in the pockets of your pants, especially if they’re shallow; the phone is likely to fall out every time you move to sit down. Also, if you can, avoid taking your phone out when you’re walking, especially on a busy, concrete sidewalk where people can easily bump into you.
