Whiplash is an injury to the soft tissues of the neck. It is usually caused by the neck being suddenly snapped into a different position, like in a car accident or other blunt-force trauma. Below are three common symptoms of whiplash and how a chiropractor can help with each one.

3 Signs of Whiplash

1. Neck Pain

chiropractorThe most obvious symptom of whiplash is neck pain. Bear in mind that, like many soft-tissue injuries, pain may develop gradually throughout several hours or days. Moving the neck in any position at all may be uncomfortable. To decrease the inflammation in the neck to reduce pain, try gently stretching the neck muscles or icing the affected area.

2. Limited Range of Motion

It is also common to experience a lack of mobility in the neck. There will typically be stiffness and rigidity, and sometimes even moving the neck a fraction of an inch will be impossible. If it is possible, the movement can be extremely painful.

3. Pain in Arms & Hands

Whiplash pain isn't always limited to the neck. It is sometimes experienced in the arms and hands and may or may not be accompanied by stiffness in these areas. Stretches, stimulation of trigger points, and adjustments can all improve pain in the arms and hands.
