Modern photo printing allows you to create customized quilts, mugs, and decorative canvas wall art. These items make fantastic, personal gifts; however, they’re not always easy to create because finding the right photo can be challenging. Here are three factors the perfect image must have to be printed on canvas.

3 Qualities of an Ideal Canvas Print Image

1. Moderate Brightness

Sharp, overexposed photos may look brilliant on your screen, but they’ll appear washed out and hard to look at on canvas, so pick one that’s not too jarring on the eyes. To avoid extensive brightness editing, capture a quality photo the first time by toggling with the exposure. If you aren’t sure how to get the right amount of light, ask for help in photography classes provided by photo printing professionals.

2. High Resolution

photo printingAlthough modern camera phones take quality photos, most lack a high resolution to transition to canvas. The resolution requirements depend on your canvas size as larger areas require a higher resolution. Your image should have a standard printing resolution of 150 to 300 pixels per inch (PPI), with higher end photos going up to 1,200 PPI. If your resolution is too small, the photo may look clear on your screen, but it’ll come out grainy and blurry when printed.

3. Centered Subject

If you choose to have your photo printing company mount your canvas over a hardwood frame, some of the content near the edge of the photo will be lost as it’s wrapped over the wood. Avoid truncating important parts of your picture by selecting an image with the subject toward the center of the photo.
