Since eating healthier is one of the  most common New Year’s Resolutions this list can help you broaden your horizons for what to eat this year.  These options are not only great tasting, but also great for you!  Simply add one new recipe a week or even a month to get cooking in 2019.

Quinoa – This food most commonly thought of as a grain, is actually a seed that belongs to the same family as Swiss Chard and Spinach.  It is though prepared much like rice and bulgar wheat.  Quinoa is especially unique because it is a complete protein, meaning it contains all essential amino acids, making it a good source of protein.

Greek Yogurt – If you haven’t tried this type of yogurt, you are missing out!  It is a thicker, richer-tasting yogurt compared to traditional yogurts. It is higher in protein than most other varieties too! It is delicious topped with a bit of all-fruit preserves or honey, and/or dried fruit and nuts.

Edamame – This wonderful food is a green soybean.  Edamame makes a great snack due to its high protein and fiber content. It can been added to salads and wraps too.  You will find it in the frozen aisle either in the pods or shelled.

Golden Kiwi – This lovely fruit is softer and sweeter than the green variety.  It also has more Vitamin C and Folate. Golden Kiwi are in season May through January. Look for them at your local grocer. This is a great choice for when you are craving something sweet!

Buffalo – This excellent lean meat choice has less calories and fat than lean beef.  It is also higher in Iron and Vitamin B-12 compared to beef. Most people that enjoy buffalo compliment it on its sweet and rich flavor.  Try it grilled, stewed, or ground.
