5 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Fitness Plan This Year, Brooklyn, New York

While New Year’s Day has passed, it’s still January, and it’s not too late to make resolutions. If you’re looking to create goals for yourself this year, heading to the gym and challenging your fitness plan should definitely be on the list. There are so many ways to get in shape while having fun. Below are a few ideas to try in 2019.

New Year’s Resolutions for the Gym

1. Try a New Fitness Class

Whether it is yoga or Zumba®, mix up your workout and try a new fitness class this year. Many gyms offer trial classes with your gym membership, so you can test out a fitness style before committing to weekly sessions. A varied workout can jumpstart a new training milestone and will also help you stave off workout boredom.

2. Set a Weightlifting Goal

Whether you have been lifting weights for some time or you are a beginner, a new weightlifting goal will have a variety of benefits for your body, such as fat loss, better metabolism, and improved strength and balance. You do not have to lift heavy dumbbells, and strength training is not always used for bulk, making it an ideal workout for both men and women.

3. Tackle a New Exercise

gymUse the new year to go outside your workout comfort zone and try a new exercise. Practice working planks into your routine to work your core or incorporate kettlebells to build leg strength. Master pushups, and if you’ve never been able to do a pull-up, make that your goal; they improve upper body and core strength.

4. Drink More Water

Hydration is important no matter your fitness level. Start drinking more water throughout the day, especially if you are kicking your workout up a few notches this year. You will feel revitalized and energetic, and you will notice the pounds dropping off when you reduce your soda and juice intake. Water can also reduce acne and lead to clearer skin.

5. Walk More

Between trips to the gym, get out and walk. Walking is one of the best and easiest ways to burn calories. If the grocery store is nearby, power walk instead of hopping in the car. Walk to pick up your children from school, or stroll around the block with a friend or partner.
