3. Eat More Fruits & Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet, as they are packed with nutrients including vitamins and minerals. Eat plenty of low-calorie, nutrient-dense produce items, and fill up on these rather than high-calorie processed foods. Aim for a colorful diet each day with foods such as leafy greens, bananas, citrus, apples, carrots, beets, and berries.

4. Limit Salt Intake

Sodium causes the body to retain water, which forces the heart to work harder. For those with an already-weak heart, this is incredibly dangerous. Decreasing salt intake is one of the most important dietary changes you should make. Replace your regular table salt with low-sodium alternatives and seasonings.
