If you are building a home or need replacement windows for your existing property, you’ll need to choose a material for the window frames. Two of the most popular options are wood and vinyl windows. Each one has strengths and weaknesses which may make it the right choice for your home. Here are a few of their major differences.

Vinyl Windows

When it comes to ease of installation and maintenance, vinyl windows have a clear advantage. Unlike wood, they never need to be painted or refinished and are durable enough to last for decades. Unfortunately, this does mean you’re stuck with the original color, as vinyl can’t be painted without damaging it.

WindowsVinyl is most commonly available in white, with a small selection of other colors in a more limited range of styles. But even in these basic colors, vinyl windows look neat and polished. Vinyl windows provide decent insulation and are the least expensive type of window available.

Wood Windows

The main reason to choose wood clad windows is for their looks. Many homeowners prefer natural wood grain over smooth and featureless vinyl. It must be repainted or refinished periodically to protect it from the elements, or it may start to rot. While wood windows are more expensive and only last 10 to 20 years at best, they also provide excellent insulation, which will help you save money on heating and cooling.
