Often, dental restorations can be daunting, since many versions require multiple visits. However, advances in modern dentistry equipment have paved the way for realistic, same-day repairs that are just as durable as traditional lab-made crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers. Here is a little more information about CEREC, and why you should ask your dentist about these special restorations.

A Guide to CEREC

What Is CEREC?

CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is an in-office technology that allows dentists to mill restorations on-site, without the need for a specialty dental laboratory. If you need a dental crown, inlay, onlay, or veneer to restore a tooth, your dentist will begin by carefully evaluating the area and cleaning the tooth.

After the tooth has been prepared for the restoration, dentists use a special intraoral camera to take a digital impression of the tooth, and the information is fed to the CEREC system, where the restoration will be fabricated. After the product is finished, your dentist will check the fit and make finishing touches before it is permanently cemented in place.

How Can CEREC Restorations Benefit You?

dentistOne of the biggest advantages of CEREC restorations is the fact that they don’t require repeat visits to the dental office, saving patients a tremendous amount of time. Additionally, since temporary crowns can feel different in the mouth, CEREC paves the way for a more comfortable experience immediately following the visit. CEREC restorations have also been shown to be incredibly durable, with research showing that these milled crowns have similar longevity to cast gold alloy restorations
