Which Vaccinations Your Cat Needs 

If you adopt a kitten — or an older cat with no medical records — there are several vaccines that your vet will likely recommend. These include those for feline leukemia and distemper. Additionally, the state of Arkansas requires that all cats be vaccinated against rabies by the time they are four months old. If your cat will be allowed outside, your vet may recommend additional immunizations, like those for leptospirosis. Booster shots will be needed periodically, as well. Most cats receive these shots during their annual wellness exams; however, a kitten’s first three rounds of vaccines are administered fairly close together.

Typically, kittens receive the first round of shots for distemper by the time they are 10 weeks old, the second before they are 14 weeks old, and the third after they are more than 15 weeks old. They should also receive the first round of their feline leukemia vaccine between 11 and 14 weeks and the second round after 15 weeks.
