It's bike season! Join the Hawaii Bicycling League next week as they host Zachary Manago's Criterium: a series of fun, free and affordable bike crits for all riding levels. The action starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015. For a tune-up beforehand, check out Eki Cyclery on 1603 Dillingham Boulevard. Faithfully serving Honolulu since 1911, they offer professional bike repair and a flat rate tune-up service on the following bicycles (replacement parts not included):
- Single-Speed Bikes: Most comfort bikes and cruisers have one speed. These are good for general exercise and leisurely transportation, and are welcome at the free Keiki/Cruisers crit starting at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
- 5- to 8-Speed Bikes: Mountain bikes and hybrids generally have a few speeds to choose from. If you're roughing it along the mountain trails of Hawaii, one of these will get you through all the bumps and craters.
- >10-Speed Bikes: Racing and street bikes have a lot of gears—because they have a need for speed! The more aligned your bike is, the faster you can go. Consider getting your bike serviced before or after participating in a race.
- BMX Bikes: These are small, but powerful! They're ideal for freestyling and tricks.
Tune-ups for all bicycles include wheel alignment, chain lubrication, brake and gear adjustment, and tightening of all fasteners.
