The return of vibrant flowers and warm-weather critters signals the beginning of spring, and with the season comes new opportunities for developmental and educational preschool activities. Spring is a colorful, lively season, so there are plenty of exciting ways to entertain young children. Here are a few activities you can enjoy with your child.

Spring Activities for Children in Preschool

1. Flower Pressing

Flowers are bountiful in the spring, so why not incorporate them into your arts and crafts projects? Take your little one out to pick some blooms and show them how to press flowers. You can even save your child’s creations for when they start reading chapter books in grade school, and they’ll have a unique bookmark they made all on their own.

2. Tissue Paper Butterflies

Celebrate the vivacity of spring with a colorful new preschool activity. Use pipe cleaners and different colors of tissue paper to create butterflies and hang them from the ceiling of your child’s bedroom. With this activity, you can help your young one develop their fine motor skills while making something creative.

3. Mini Gardens

preschoolTeach your child about plant life, responsibilities, and the environment all in one go with their very own mini garden. Choose easy-to-grow plants like sunflowers, cherry tomatoes, and snapdragons to get them started. You can also ask them preschool-level questions about the progress of their garden, like “How tall do you think it will grow?” to get them thinking critically.

4. Playdough Animals

Preschool kids love animals, and thankfully, there are many associated with springtime. Bunnies, chipmunks, birds, bears, and other critters can be the inspiration for your next activity. Buy or make your own playdough in a variety of colors, then give your young one pictures of their favorite animals to craft. Rolling, pinching, and molding playdough is an excellent way to exercise your child’s fine motor skills.

5. Counting Petals

Children learn how to count and identify numbers in preschool, so you can help them practice at home. Cut out stems, leaves, and individual petals. Write a number 1 through 10 on each petal, then ask your child to place a specific number of petals on each flower. Afterward, ask them to count the number of petals on each flower out loud.
