It may not feel like it, but spring is only a few months away, and many motorcycle riders are already dreaming about taking their bikes out of storage and hitting the road. However, even if your bike was in perfect condition when you put it away, there are a few maintenance tasks you should take care of and motorcycle parts to check before firing it up for the first time. Below are a few keys steps for getting your bike ready for spring.

3 Key Motorcycle Maintenance Tasks

1. Change the Fluids

Unless you did so before putting your bike away, change out the oil, check the coolant, and replace the gas if you didn’t use a fuel stabilizer before storing your motorcycle.

2. Check the Brakes

Over the winter, dust and moisture sometimes collect on the brake pads, making them less effective when you need them most. Use brake cleaner on the pads and, if you notice pitting or they seem worn, replace them with new motorcycle parts. You should also bleed the brake lines to release any air that might have worked its way into the hydraulic system.

3. Check the Battery

If you haven’t been starting your bike up on a regular basis, the battery might have died over the summer. If so, you might need to recharge it or visit the motorcycle parts store for a new one. While you’re checking the electrical system, you should also make sure that all the lights work and replace any bulbs that might have burnt out.
